Codex Committee drops COO requirements

The Codex Alimentarius Commission Committee on Labeling decided to drop any further work on COO labeling requirements. Codex is an international agency that sets international food standards for commodities and guidelines for related processes.

At its spring meeting in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, the committee said no further work would be done because of a lack of consensus among committee members. During the meeting, the International Frozen Food Assn. stated its opposition to COO labeling and noted that numerous other delegations and observers had opposed further work for the past three years.
