A next generation of foam-in-place technology (FIP) has been introduced by Pregis LLC, a North American leader in protective packaging solutions. Maxwell, the new intelligent interface, has been engineered to empower users of Pregis’ IntelliPack SmartBagger FIP system.

Maxwell takes the guess work out of the FIP bagging operation by providing a robust, end-user experience with the touch of a finger. This includes a personalized touchscreen to meet specific company objectives and virtually unlimited barcoding. Users also have the option to add instructional photos and videos to facilitate correct placement of FIP bags for the specific product being packaged.

“In packaging operations which rely on FIP, workers are typically asked to package many different types of products,” explains John Gee, national sales manager, IntelliPack systems. “Maxwell is capable of providing specific instructions regarding both material usage and bag placement for optimum protection. The operator can look at the screen to follow easy-to-understand photos or videos. These are also ideal for training and troubleshooting. Maxwell takes the guesswork out of the FIP packaging operation.”

Several new “smart” features have been designed to increase productivity and expand control of packing standards, material usage, cost management and training. Additional capabilities include:

  • Touchscreen personalization to meet diverse needs
  • Customization of access levels (operator, manager, service techs)
  • Detailed material consumption reports (from one machine or multiple)
  • Unlimited number of preset and page options

“Companies are constantly trying to figure out ways to drive costs out of their packaging operation,” says Gee. “Maxwell’s data-driven capabilities gives users granular data that helps them achieve just that.”
