Education warms up this winter

San José State runs its Winter 2001 Intensive Packaging Program Jan. 8 to 19 while Michigan State will host its Career Fair 2001 Jan. 16 to 17. Clemson will hold its Packaging and Distribution Short Course on Jan. 22 to 24. The San José program consists of 10 separate topics, each covered in one day from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Designed for professionals in packaging or related fields, the Winter 2001 program includes topics such as packaging fundamentals and development, impact and shock applications in packaging, and molded pulp protective packaging. All topics include lecture notes and supporting literature such as articles and research reports. A $345/ day fee includes all materials and a certificate of participation. Michigan State’s career fair was designed to help potential employers gain access to the students and graduates of the MSU School of Packaging to hire them into full-time or internship positions. Clemson’s course was designed as an introductory class for industry and business professionals who want an understanding of proper packaging and shipping techniques, according to Dr. Scott Whiteside of the Department of Packaging Science at Clemson. Topics to be covered include on-site laboratory experiences, industry standards, practices and regulations, and physical distribution.
