Vf/f/s pouch system donated to Clemson

Clemson University students are receiving first-hand experience with pouch packaging thanks to the donation of a Model 2050 vertical form/fill/seal system from Cryovac (Duncan, SC), a subsidiary of Sealed Air Corp.

The system packs hot- and cold-fill foods, such as soups and sauces, into flexible pouches.

In September, Clemson’s Packaging Science Department demonstrated how the $176ꯠ gift could work, producing plastic bags filled with an orange drink. “Cryovac has proven to be a genuine asset to our school and the community, and we appreciate the continued support in helping us to remain one of the highest-ranking packaging science schools in the country,” noted Dr. Ron Thomas, chairman of Clemson’s Packaging Science Department. He said the machine will become a “cornerstone” of the laboratory.

“Students can actually get hands-on experience with the machinery,” added Beth Hartley, a graduate student working on a masters degree in packaging science. “And when they get in a working environment, they’ll know what is going on.”
