When Eidos looked to package its multi-disc game software, Commandos 3: Destination Berlin and Deus Ex: Invisible War for North America, it selected the slim triple Alphapak from Nexpak.

While the Alphapak has been widely adopted for studio DVD movies, this represents a new application.

Alphapak is an injection-molded polypropylene case that holds three discs in a slim profile that permits the graphic appeal of a printed outer paperboard sleeve with a fold-out panel.

“Eidos’ new games packaging benefits the consumer, retailer, and game publisher on multiple fronts,” says Michael Minson, director of operations for Eidos. “The attractive, streamlined packaging eliminates stray manuals and jewel case clutter, while providing retailers the standard PC game footprint and increased security. We are rewarded with lower manufacturing costs and increased branding potential.”

The durability of the plastic case provides extra value to the consumer over typical paperboard packaging and it enhances disc storage and protection. The containers feature a DVD-approved pluck-hub design, literature tabs for holding printed materials, and a full outer sleeve for inserts. “As a durable keep-case, this package becomes an integral part of software packaging that is not discarded after purchase,” points out Lisa Lake, executive director of marketing for specialty packaging at Nexpak.
