Schmalbach-Lubec: Tamper-evident closure

The new Band Guard® closure from Schmalbach-Lubeca Whitecap (Downers Grove, IL) has a dual TE feature. The consumer can feel, see and hear that the package has not previously been opened.

When the injection-molded PP closure is first opened, the tamper band breaks. Then, as the vacuum is released, the safety button on the steel piece that fits inside the outer threaded piece pops up with an audible click. Uses include baby food and other products eaten directly from the package and typically not resealed.
