Final rule issued on dietary supplement labeling
More than two years in the making, a final rule on dietary supplements has finally been issued. It takes effect March 23, 1999, and it applies to products containing ingredients such as vitamins, minerals, herbs or amino acids intended to supplement the diet.

Country-of-origin labeling on the fast track?
The Clinton Administration is fighting for renewal of its fast-track negotiating authority in international trade. Meanwhile, the American Frozen Food Institute (AFFI) is fighting to see that the proposal to require front panel country-of-origin marking on packages of frozen fruits and vegetables doesn't get wrapped into the fast track bill by supporters willing to trade their vote on fast track for inclusion of the labeling proposal.

FMI endorses OTC changes
The Food Marketing Institute (FMI) supports FDA's proposed regulation to establish a standardized labeling format for over-the-counter (OTC) drugs. But in comments to FDA, the trade group asked for national uniformity in requirements for OTC drug product labeling.
