Fat analysis is a critical measurement in today’s operating environments, as processors seek to control costs, maintain consistency, and comply with regulatory requirements. To help meet these objectives. especially as enforcement of nutrient content claims increases in the U.S., Eagle Product Inspection has advanced its FA3 Series Fat Analysis (FA) systems.

Powered by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) technology, Eagle’s FA3 systems precisely measure fat content and calculate the chemical lean (CL) of meat products. With more accurate data, processors can ensure nutrition labels comply with U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and Food Safety Inspection Service (FSIS) standards. Reliable analysis also helps reduce the risk of fat claims due to discrepancies between actual and declared fat levels.

The FA Series, which includes the FA3/M and FA3/C models, delivers benefits that extend beyond regulatory compliance. By ensuring batches meet target specifications, the first time, processors can reduce rework, improve product consistency and quality, and optimize existing inventory.

Built-in multifunctionality further enhances return on investment. The FA3 systems simultaneously perform food safety and quality checks, identifying and removing physical contaminants that could cause recalls or consumer harm. Robust construction allows operation in harsh washdown environments, and the systems are effective across a wide range of red meat and poultry applications, whether fresh, chilled, frozen, or packaged.

  • FA3/M – Provides accurate fat measurement to +/-1 CL and contaminant detection in fresh, chilled, frozen, and hot-boned loose bulk meat, as well as frozen or tempered meat blocks and unwrapped meat conveyed in plastic crates.
  • FA3/C – Offers inline fat measurement to +/-CL and contaminant detection of packaged products in formats including plastic crates, cartons, and vacuum-packed blocks.

By combining precision fat analysis with contaminant detection, Eagle’s FA3 Series helps meat processors achieve compliance, protect brand integrity, and optimize yields.
