based in Norwalk, CT, specified a package designed to withstand the rigors of shipping and environmental extremes: a spiral-wound paper canister. It's the first time this package format has been used for Pepperidge Farm Goldfish.

Supplied by Sonoco (Hartsville, SC), the 307x608 canister contains 5.5 oz of goldfish crackers packaged at Pepperidge Farm's Willard, OH, plant. Two flavors, cheddar and plain, are now available in Asia, Western Europe and Latin America.

The canister has Sonoco's Sealed-Safe peelable foil membrane attached to a metal ring for easy opening. A snap-fit overcap injection molded of low-density polyethylene provides easy resealing.

Paper labels adorning the canister, also produced by Sonoco, are printed flexo in six colors. Sonoco included the canister as part of its press kit at interpack 99 in Dsseldorf, Germany. Pepperidge Farm, however, declined to comment on the overseas launch.
