Recycling reports to be filed in California

Food industry organizations will help members comply with requirements of a California law requiring recycling of rigid plastic containers sold in the state.

The food industry received a two-year exemption from the law, which took effect on January 1, 1995. In the interim, food companies must file reports with the California Integrated Waste Management Board, indicating progress toward achieving the requirements of the law. The Grocery Manufacturers of America, NFPA, Distilled Spirits Council of the United States, the American Frozen Food Institute, California League of Food Processors and the Dairy Institute of California are working together to analyze results of a survey of their members. A draft report will be submitted early in fall 1995.
