Since the International Chocolate Co., Salt Lake City, UT, changed the packaging for its Single-Bean Chocolate Bars, the product has become its best-selling item. Tim Bergquist of International Chocolate says the candy’s popularity is due in part to a switch from multipacks to the single bars that the company now sells. But Bergquist also credits freelance graphic artist Susan Igo, who, in conjunction with Bergquist, developed the packaging and graphics for the single bars of chocolate. The package, a “pillow box” made of 80-pt cardstock, is foil-stamped in two colors. The deep shades of brown and gold convey an all-natural quality, which, according to Bergquist, was intentional because International Chocolate sells much of its candy in coffee houses and other gourmet food shops. Bergquist thought a natural look would fit well in the coffee house niche. International Chocolate Co.’s Single-Bean Chocolate bars are available nationwide and retail for $1.89.
