DuPont Canada to buy Liqui-Box for $333 million

On March 26, chemicals firm DuPont Canada Inc., Mississauga, Ont., said it had agreed to pay $333 million to acquire packaging systems company Liqui-Box Corp. to boost its presence in liquid packaging.

DuPont Canada's Enhance Packaging Technologies Inc. unit will acquire Worthington, OH-based Liqui-Box for $67 a share, the company said. DuPont Canada also said it expected the deal to contribute to its earnings in the first 12 months of their combined operations. The transaction is expected to close in May or June, the company said. Liqui-Box had revenues of $145.2 million and net earnings of $13.5 million or $3.01 per share in the year ended Dec. 29 2001.
