Plastic packaging clogging sewers in Bangalore...

A recent editorial in The Hindu decried the overuse of plastic packaging in India. "Milk sachets, mineral water bottles, grocery bags, empty plastic cans and containers," litter the streets and sidewalks and ultimately clog the storm sewers in Bangalore. Some cities are banning the use of plastic and citizens are reverting to practices of old—carrying cloth shopping bags and purchasing food wrapped in newspaper instead of over-bundled in plastic. The editorial opines that India has "aped the disposable culture of the West" where an average of 70kg of plastic is used per person every year. In India, the average is 3kg of plastic per person is used. Perhaps the West should follow India's lead?!
