Wausau Paper: Paper for microwave popcorn packaging

Wausau Paper’s ProPly (bleached) and Eco Select (unbleached) papers provide brand owners and converters functionality, appearance and sustainability advantages when customizing their microwaveable popcorn bag application.

ProPoly and Eco Select fibers are refined to achieve an equally functional barrier prior to additional barrier treatments, providing inherent oil/grease resistance.  The paper fiber refining process creates a ‘tortuous path’ barrier from which it is more difficult for oil to escape.  And, by starting with a superior sheet, high-performing barriers can be built with less fluorochemical treatment.

ProPly and Eco Select papers are also highly char resistant, which is particularly important for increasingly popular single-serve bags that generate heat more quickly due to their smaller size. The papers are also flexographic printable offering a high degree of ink holdout, helping to eliminate bleed through that can build up during processing.

The company’s Eco Select papers further provide a ‘natural’ look conveying eco-responsibility to consumers and can be Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified, meaning the paper is sourced from responsibly managed, sustainable forests.
