AVPM honors Greg Bland with scholarship in his name

The Association of Visual Packaging Manufacturers names its annual scholarship in memory of Greg Bland, former Technical Director of Quality Control for Clearwater Paper Corporation.

The board of directors of Association of Visual Packaging Manufacturers (AVPM) recently named its annual scholarship bestowed to a student at Michigan State University School of Packaging the AVPM Greg Bland Scholarship in honor of B. Gregory Bland, a founding member of AVPM and an innovative expert in the packaging industry who passed away in 2015.

“We at Clearwater Paper are honored that the AVPM has chosen to name its’ annual scholarship award after Greg Bland,” says Bob Collins, Clearwater Paper Corporation’s Director of Sales. “Greg and I worked together to develop our Carded Packaging Grades, starting back in 2004. It was a textbook case as to how manufacturing, sales and customers worked together to develop products that enhanced quality into the segment. Greg was totally dedicated to the development of Carded Packaging grades, and everyone at Clearwater along with Greg’s family, is proud of his commitment and dedication.”

This year’s award winner was Audrey Wilson, a senior at Michigan State University who will graduate in 2016 with degrees in Packaging and Chemistry. Upon graduation, Audrey will be employed by Cardinal Health in a packaging position within the company’s EMERGE rotational program. She hopes to use packaging as an avenue for increasing the quality of consumers’ lives through greater access to medical products.

AVPM also elected new officers for its board of directors:

  • Vice President – Paul Tomick, First Choice Packaging, Fremont, OH
  • Secretary – David Dennison, Printex Transparent Packaging, NY, Montreal, Toronto
  • Treasurer/Administrator – John Tomick, You Talkin’ to Me?, Glenview, IL
