Selenis Canada Inc. celebrates 3rd anniversary as PET resin supplier

Selenis Canada Inc., Montreal East, Quebec, which forms part of a petrochemical cluster that integrates oil refining, PX, PTA and finally, PET, is celebrating its 3rd anniversary as a PET resin supplier.

Initially under the name of PPT Poly Canada, the plant belonged to a consortium formed between Shell and SGF de Quebec for the production of polytrimethylene terephthalate (PTT) polymer.

In 2009 IMG Group, a diversified Portuguese company with investments in banking, real estate, petrochemicals, and packaging, acquired the plant and converted it to polyethylene terephthalate (PET) resin production. The IMG Group has been present in the polymer and packaging industry for over 50 years.

In April 2011, the PET plant in Montreal became commercial under the name of Selenis Canada Inc. with an initial capacity of 150KMT or 330 million lbs./yr. Three years later Selenis Canada Inc. is celebrating its 3rd anniversary, has successfully introduced its wide-range of PET products into the Canadian and US markets, and built a reputation as a high quality PET producer. Selenis Canada Inc. has increased its presence in all market segments.

Selenis Canada Inc. is currently working in a debottlenecking process to bring capacity up to 250KMT or 550 million lbs./yr. The quality of Selenis products and high customer acceptance are only some of the factors that have driven the decision to expand the Montreal PET plant. This is a strategic decision that was projected in IMG Group’s initial plans to strengthen Selenis’ market presence.

Selenis Canada Inc. has commenced expansion plans with engineering service providers and expects to have expansion plans fully operational by 2015.
