Now there's a trade fair on this important discipline. Called mechatroniX, it's to be held June 16-18 in Augsburg, Germany, and it's organized by fairXperts GmbH.
Somewhere between 80 and 100 exhibitors are expected at the debut of mechatroniX. Supplementing the goods and services shown at the exhibition booths will be a series of workshops held on all three days of the trade fair in cooperation with Cluster Mechatronik & Automation. Topics include "Management and mechatronics," "Mechatronics in product R&D," and "Mechatronics in human resources development."
"mechatroniX provides all suppliers, users, advocates and 'missionaries' of mechatronics with a concentrated presentation and procurement platform for the first time, which simultaneously promotes an interdisciplinary, cross-industry dialogue," notes a recent press release announcing the event. "The weak point of the conventional R&D process in the field of machinery manufacturing is the strict separation of, and the various weightings assigned to, the disciplines of mechanical engineering, electronics, and software. In contrast to this, mechatronics makes use of a complex, holistic R&D approach. The final product is no longer viewed from the standpoint of the individual disciplines, but rather from a 'functional' perspective. This results in a significantly shortened engineering process and considerably reduced R&D costs. Product features are optimized at the same time.
"Mechatronix provides companies with the opportunity of differentiating themselves from the competition by means of a technological advantage and offering customers products having added value. It also brings cost savings and positions companies to react more quickly to changing market requirements."
