McDonald's tells all

McDonald’s rolled out its new nutrition information on packaging initiative at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy. Information on calories, protein, fat, carbohydrates, and salt is presented with icons and numbers on food boxes and wrappers.

The symbol for salt is three diagonal dots, three blocks for protein, and two horizontal lines with vertical bars for fat. Next to each icon is the percentage it constitutes of an average daily diet of 2ꯠ calories. Some 20ꯠ McDonald’s restaurants will begin using the new packaging in 2006, with the remaining 10ꯠ following later.
