BUSINESS INDEX IMPROVES

PMMI’s Business Conditions Index showed that the packaging machinery sector improved during the Nov. 15 - Dec. 20, 2002 time period. Specifically, shipments rose 16.7 points to 69.9; new orders were up 2.3 points to 63.2, general business conditions declined 2.8 points to 57.6, while quotations fell 20.9 points to 54.8, following a record high mark of 75.7 after the Pack Expo International trade show.

According to PMMI, an index exceeding 50 indicates expansion; below 50 signals a slowdown in activity. Additional details are available at www.pmmi.org.
