Label provides Holiday 'Punch'

When Cliffstar Corp. introduced Golden Crown brand Holiday Punch in 64-oz hot-filled PET bottles last November, the Dunkirk, NY, firm opted for a metallized paper label to make the product sparkle on the shelf.

"We feel the outstanding label was a contributing factor to the success of the product," says manager of marketing services Colleen Galofaro. The labels are converted by Gintzler Graphics (Rochester, NY). On a 60-lb metallized paper from Rexam (Oak Brook, IL), Gintzler flexo prints the label design in eight colors and then laminates over it a 1-mil clear oriented polypropylene for protection and tear resistance. Galofaro says the use of metallized rather than plain paper approximately doubles the cost of the label. That makes it impractical in everyday use, she admits, but she's very positive on the use of it for special promotions. "We plan to offer the product next year," she says.
