Hasbro joining the eco-friendly packaging parade

Toy maker promises changes beginning in 2011, with the goal of 90% recycled content for its packaging within five years.

Like a lot of consumer packaged goods companies, Hasbro is making big sustainability plans. The toy maker reports on BusinessWire that it will be making significant sustainability strides in 2011.

For starters, Hasbro plans to remove wire packaging ties. And then it expects to roll out packaging made of 75% of recycled paper. Within five years, the company adds, its goal is 90% recycled content for in-carton game packaging, as well as the outer packaging.

Director of product packaging sustainability is becoming a more common position at CPG companies, and Hasbro says it plans to add one as well.
