In the U.S., sustainable packaging takes hold with Timberland boots..

Taking a lead from CPG companies, footwear and apparel company Timberland plans to roll out new packaging that will include a "nutrition label" detailing how and where the product was manufactured and its impact on the environment.

The label will include how much energy was needed to produce Timberland footwear, the amount of Timberland's energy that is generated from renewable resources such as the sun, wind or water, as well as community details like total number of hours Timberland employees volunteer in the community. Messaging inside the boxes will ask consumers, "What kind of footprint will you leave?"
