It appears that the steel sidewall may corrode in areas where enough coating wasn't applied. The corrosion may lead to can rupture, which, in turn, could propel the product and a plastic valve from the can. The rupture itself would leave jagged edges that could cause injury. The reported cause is still preliminary says Pfizer's Dave Dobbins; more testing needs to be done, he adds. All inventory is being recalled from wholesalers and retailers, and the company's unidentified can supplier is reviewing process changes to eliminate the potential for coating problems in the future. Pfizer cautions consumers to discharge all the product in the can to relieve internal pressure, and then record the lot number printed on the can bottom for a replacement certificate or refund.
