Prosthetic limbs are far from perfect, but seemingly getting better by the day with new thanks to technological advances. According to a recent Medgadget article, the latest prosthetic concept, developed by engineers at MIT, includes implanting magnetic beads and a series of sensors that monitor their movement.
When implanted in a residual limb, the paired beads move relative to each other and generate information on muscle movement. The sensors then relay this information to a prosthetic to control its movements more precisely than current electromyography systems. A video with more information can be seen here.
