Coated BOPP film wraps pops

In October ’01 confectionery producer Cadbury Trebor Allan Inc. began wrapping its generic line of pops (or suckers) with a coated biaxially oriented polypropylene film from UCB Films (Smyrna, GA).

According to the Toronto, Canada-based Cadbury, using the clear, unprinted Propafilm™ FFC 1-mil film reduced its costs by 4%. The film is coated on one side with an acrylic that provides an aroma barrier and a glossy appearance to improve product presentation. On the other side, a low-temperature sealing coating results in packaging-line efficiency.

“The film has resolved production issues that we had in connection with the product package,” says Cadbury Trebor Allan's packaging project coordinator, Jason Berg. “The film is running very well on the line.” No equipment modifications were needed. Cadbury declined to answer Packworld.com inquiries for more details.
