Pickle packs debut

Retortable single-serve barrier cups have generated a number of headlines lately. First was cat food, then tuna for humans, and now, from Mt. Olive Pickle Company of Mt. Olive, NC, pickles.

Pw 8519 Mt Olive

Mt. Olive declines to comment on this innovative package, but Packaging World has learned that the product began reaching store shelves in early April. The cup is custom molded by Printpack (www.printpack.com) and bears the Mt. Olive logo on four side panels. Foil lidding material, also from Printpack, is printed flexo in four colors.

Four Pickle Pak cups are contained in a paperboard sleeve. This is believed to be the first time that pickles have been packaged in this format in the U.S.
