Ready-made, portable beer cooler pack

Miller Brewing Co., Milwaukee, WI, and Curwood, a Bemis Company, (www.curwood.com) are recipients of an FPA Gold Award for Packaging Excellence in recognition of the Curwood Express Tote™ marketed as the Miller Lite Chill Bag.

As noted by the FPA judging panel, this new flexible packaging system adds structural integrity for the comfortable transport of 18 beer cans, while creating extra space for ice, making it an on-the-go cooler pack.

Made of 48-gauge metallized polyester film with eye-catching graphics, the durable, water-proof, puncture-resistant tote system features a gusseted stand-up bottom design, sturdy nylon handles, and a wide-mouth opening with a reclosable slide zipper. Once the product is depleted, the tote can be reused for carrying other items up to 50 lbs in weight, while its bold graphics continue to serve as mobile advertising for Miller Lite.

Miller Brewing’s project manager for new product development Jeff Garwood says, “We introduced this packaging concept into selected markets for a particular convenience store chain in May, 2006, and then went nationwide in the same chain in August, 2006. Consumers have responded well to this highly convenient, grab-and-go, reusable packaging system with high-impact graphics.”

Curwood points out that the packaging is available in clear, white, metallic, or holographic barrier or non-barrier materials, reverse-printed either in flexo or gravure, for other food and beverage applications.
