DuPont Awards’ 19th editionThe 19th annual DuPont Awards Competition once again shines the spotlight on innovation in packaging. From 135 entries, 26 packs received awards.

Pw 9628 Gold Group4 Paint R

Sherwin-Williams Ready to Roll™ 2.5-gal lidded paint container is part can, part tray, and pure convenience. It was a Gold Award for Group 4 (www.groupfour.com), which conducted the original package design, and Sherwin-Williams, Cleveland, OH, makers of Dutch Boy brand paint.

The container features a built-in roller tray and holds 2.5 gallons of paint, the amount needed to paint a typical room.

“Our consumer research found that when it came to painting, the Ready to Roll paint container was far neater and easier to use, easier to transport, to open and close, and more secure for storage than any of the other project-sized alternatives,” says Adam Chafe, Dutch Boy vice president of marketing. “We’ve provided a package that makes any painting project simple and without all the mess.”

Injection-molded of recyclable polypropylene, the product is loaded with convenient features for consumers and for retailers. For consumers, it offers:

• Easy-to-open, resealable, airtight lid.

• Elimination of the continual transfer of paint into a separate roller tray.

• A built-in roller tray and deep paint well to accommodate any size brush or roller.

• Convenient pour spout that minimizes spilling and dripping.

• Sloped base so paint settles toward the front well.

• Comfortable, ergonomic grip handle for easy transport.

For retailers, the rust-free, dent-resistant package is compatible with existing tinting equipment, stackable, and has a space-efficient square shape.

The tray features drain holes and roller ribs to keep paint contained in the bucket and to make the rolling process more effective and efficient. The integrated pour spout and interior paint well ensures that nearly all paint is used or recovered and directed to any secondary containers without the paint runoff found down the side of a traditional paint can.

Says Ron Hudas, Dutch Boy product manager, “Those consumers who have had the opportunity to use Ready To Roll have found it to be an innovative solution, as it makes the completion of projects quicker and easier, all at a great value.”

The product retails for $36 to $46, depending on the grade of paint. It is sold throughout the U.S. as well as more than 50 locations of Home Depot Mexico.
