The Mead Corp. (Dayton, OH) and Westvaco Corp. (Stamford, CT) have agreed to create a global company involved in packaging, coated and specialty papers, consumer and office products, and specialty chemicals.

The value of the combined organization is said to exceed $10 billion. —Printpack Inc. (Atlanta, GA) has acquired the business and assets of Independent Packaging (Dallas, TX). —STIK-II Products (Easthampton, MA) has purchased Richards, Parents & Murray, Inc. (Mount Vernon, NY). —Pliant Corp. (Schaumburg, IL) has acquired Uniplast (Dallas, TX). —DuPont Displays (Wilmington, DE), a business unit of DuPont iTechnologies, has formed a joint venture with Label Systems (Bridgeport, CT) to provide enhanced security solutions. —Hoover Materials Handling Group, Inc. (Alpharetta, GA) has entered into an agreement with National Container Group (Chicago, IL) to provide container refurbishing services for Hoover’s container recovery programs. —SICK, Inc. (Minneapolis, MN) has purchased the LazerData product line of PSC Inc. (Webster, NY). —Bodolay Packaging Machinery has acquired the mfg. rights and all associated intellectual property of the FlowLogic™ net weight scale product line from Upper Limits Engineering (Livermore, CA). —Paragon Technologies (Exton, PA) put into motion its market alignment to better align corporate operations with customer and market demands. —Harris Group Inc. (Seattle, WA) and Weyerhaeuser Co. (Seattle, WA) have signed a master agreement that qualifies the Harris Group to provide services throughout the United States. —Captive Plastics (Piscataway, NJ) has purchased the assets of Star Container (Phoenix, AZ) from The Tech Group (Scottsdale, AZ). — Exo-Tech Packaging (Spartanburg, SC) has completed the purchase of the flexible packaging business of International Paper (Purchase, NY); The Dow Chemical Co. (Midland, MI) and International Paper have signed a strategic supply agreement for corrugated bulk boxes.
