In April, USDA decided it did not have the authority to regulate cosmetics (FDA does that) and ordered the USDA Organic seal removed. Some cosmetics makers sued, and USDA decided it doesn’t matter what type of product bore the label as long as it followed the labeling rules. Dietary supplements and pet food can now be certified as organic under the decision. Organic labeling rules for fish also are being developed.
