Splenda ads not splendid

The Center for Science in the Public Interest is calling on the makers of Splenda to change the labeling and advertising of the increasingly popular artificial sweetener.

Splenda’s slogan, “made from sugar, so it tastes like sugar,” is misleading, charges CSPI.

Splenda contains sucralose, a synthetic chemical that contains chlorine. In a national survey commissioned by CSPI, 47% of participants believed Splenda was a natural product. CSPI noted that even though the labeling and advertising are misleading, the product itself appears to be safe.
