Hi, I'm Natalie Craig, the Features Editor of Packaging World Magazine and I'm back with another edition of Take Five with Packaging World.

I recently attended PACK EXPO East with other editors from PMMI Media Group, and we covered tons of innovations that we found on the show floor. Since we only have five minutes here I wanted to dive into the latest innovations that I found.

A compact horizontal cartoning machine from PMI Kyoto caught my eye, the new KC-100F is a continuous motion all servo horizontal cartoner, that is capable of either automatic or handloaded product in-feed. At only 20 feet long.,the KC-100F is ideal for contract packagers, and companies who rely on fast and accurate packaging, but have limited factory space for the size of a typical horizontal cartoner. Other features of the KC-100F on display at PACK EXPO East  included quick and simple changeover and product pushers which do not require tools—resulting in reduced downtime.

Also on the show floor, I got to see the new Formost Fuji Alpha 8 Sanitary Flow Wrapper—which is designed with stainless steel hardware, steel bearings, standoffs, and slanted surfaces which reduce niches for microbial harborage. It also allows access to the hard to reach areas of the machine that can hide debris. These important features are now available with a box motion and seal unit. The wrapper provides high quality tight seal for difficult to seal films while also allowing for the machine to be disassembled for thorough sanitation and maintenance.

I had to circle around the Unified Flex Packaging Technologies' booth a few times before I finally got a glimpse of its modular and flexible automatic pouch bagger. The AP-140 Auto Pouch bagger is designed to be modular and flexible automatic form-fill-seal machine with a clean and simple design. This vertical form fill seal was made to be an entry level machine, which is great for contract packagers and emerging brands. It makes four different pack styles: a pouch, a three side seal, a four sided seal, and a stick pack.

And lastly Enercon debuted its new all-in-one sealing head for its induction capsealer during PACK EXPO East  for packages dealing a wide range of containers, Enercon's all in one sealing head design offers flexibility, allowing operators to optimize the induction field to achieve an ideal seal across an entire production range.

And that's just the tip of the iceberg for innovations found at PACK EXPO East. Thank you so much for joining me today on this episode of Take Five.
