In 2021, Trivium Packaging pledged to set science-based targets to help limit the global temperature rise to 1.5°C in the short and long term. In 2022, it adjusted its Scope 1 and 2 emissions reduction commitments from 30% to 42% by 2030. Trivium also introduced a new Scope 3 emissions reduction target of 25% by 2030.

The SBTi has classified Trivium’s target ambitions as being in line with a 1.5°C trajectory. This means the goals are consistent with a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions to levels that the latest climate science deems necessary to limit global warming to 1.5°C. The 1.5°C-aligned target is currently the most ambitious designation available through the SBTi process.

“Tackling climate change requires ambitious action from the corporate sector. At Trivium, we believe that quality packaging does not have to be at odds with the planet— and we work hard to demonstrate that every single day. We are proud to have validated our ambitions and plans, in line with the Paris agreement, by the thorough validation process of the SBTi. This is a firm recognition of our commitment to a more sustainable future, now and in generations to come,” said Trivium’s Chief Sustainability Officer, Jenny Wassenaar.
