The Holland, MI-based firm includes an inspirational family prayer and activity card with each 36- to 40-oz meal.

The line of nine products made their test market debut in September at Wal-Mart Supercenters in 40 states, where the entrées sell for $4.76 to $4.98.

The custom, dual-ovenable polyester-laminated molded pulp trays are from Huhtamaki Consumer Packaging Business Unit (De Soto, KS). The 7¾’’ x 9’’ x 1¾’’ black trays are filled, then sealed with polyester film at rates to 45/min and cartoned. Supplied by Caraustar (Austell, GA) the 18-pt SBS cartons are litho-printed in six colors.

Do the products have a prayer of a chance? “So far, the products are doing quite well,” responds Jack DeWitt, president of Request Foods. “We just want to reach and touch people one family at a time.” —RL
