A real-world example is creating a precise 3D image of a brake pad to determine surface defects on low contrast parts. The displacement sensor inspects and measures in 3D, with measurements of volume, height, tilt, and optical character recognition (OCR). The calibrated 3D system reports results in real-world units (mm) down to the micron.
Other benefits include:
- Contrast-independent inspection – Able to read dark objects on dark backgrounds and able to profile independent of an object’s colors.
- Ability to combine 3D and 2D cameras – Many applications now require both.
- World-class 3D and 2D vision tools – Height, volume, plane fitting, and tilt tools—plus algorithms including PatMax,IDMax, and OCRMax.
- Industrial IP65 housing – IP69K enclosure option for food and beverage applications.
