ConAgra to cut packaging waste

Can ConAgra cut packaging waste, increase use of recycled content, and use more packaging made from renewable resources?

A 10% cut in packaging by 2015 with 2008 as the baseline—that’s the sustainable packaging goal ConAgra has set for itself.

ConAgra CEO Gary Rodkin sees this as the responsible thing to do. “Because our food is part of the lives of millions of consumers each day,” says Rodkin, “ConAgra has a critical responsibility to create positive environmental change.”

Other goals, says foodnavigator-usa.com, include an increase in the use of packaging made from renewable resources from 45% to more than 50% in the next five years. More use of recycled content is also being looked at.
