High-Speed Bottle Packaging

Making its debut at the Delkor booth was a new line that was running 8-count cases at 750 bpm. Line can run single-flavor or, with optional infeed, multi-flavor packages. Featured on the line are patented Smart Lock quick-change indicators. Also, the Trayfecta X case former sends 50 cases/min to supply empty cases for the line.

I'm Rick Gessler, vice president of engineering and manufacturing for Delkor Systems, and we're here at Pack Expo in the North Hall exhibiting our latest development in high-speed bottle packaging. The line that you're looking at here is running 750 bottles per minute into eight-count cases.

This is for a drinkable high-protein beverage. And this line is able to run either single flavor or, with optional infeed, multi-flavor packages, perfect for club store and retail applications. As the product passes down the line through our lane guides, you can see the green lights.

Those are Delkor's SmartLock quick changeover indicators. Those lights change to a state of a red color during changeover if any change is needed, or as soon as you move the guide into the correct position, they turn green, letting the operator and the machine know that it's in the correct position, ready to start the next package format. Here in the pick zone, you can see our dual infeed going into action. This enables high replenishment rates when you're running these speeds of 500-plus bottles per minute.

On the far side of the machine is our servo-driven funnel guide that ensures all the bottles perfectly enter the case without catching on any flaps or edges. Our Trifecta X former is running at a rate up to 50 cases per minute to supply the empty cases for the line. This machine holds 500 case blanks for ultra-long runs between replenishment.

The Trifecta has multiple patents around its ability to handle warped corrugated board, from our patented forming cavity to our blank tensioning device that's able to reduce warp during the forming process, and onto our laser sensors that allow us to perfectly square the blank prior to the forming process. As the empty cases come down the line into the loading zone, you can see that we're grouping them in sets of five, again, to facilitate the high-speed loading of the product.

For different pack formats, we offer lightweight drop-in funnels to suit each one of the case sizes being run on the line. The full cases pass down the line through our integrated case check weigher that verifies pack count and into our high-speed T-Series case sealer.

The current case running is a split-top case, but this case sealer can run over 100 cases per minute and can handle single-top flap cases as well for the perfect retail appearance. We'd love to talk with you about your next application.
