The company is very careful to choose packaging approaches that protect the delicate flavor and aroma properties of its products. With that purpose in mind, Fazer is using Carta Solida coated fiber paperboard from M-real (www.m-real.com) to package its flagship chocolates. Most of Karl Fazer’s confectionery boxes are printed and converted by Pyroll Tampere (www.pyroll.com) in close cooperation with M-real and Fazer.

Fazer Confectionery brand manager Paivi Svens says, “As the chocolates are packed without individual wrappings within the cartons, it is of utmost importance that there will be no odor or taint transferring from or through the carton packaging material. M-real’s coated primary fiber paperboard, Carta Solida, meets these criteria. The middle layer of the Carta Solida consists of bleached chemi-thermo-mechanical pulp (BCTMP), a high-purity-processed pulp that ensures excellent sensory properties. In addition, the high-quality cartons run smoothly on our packing line. That means fewer interruptions and reduced product and carton losses.”

Petri Lahtinen, key account manager for Pyroll Tampere, adds, “From a converter’s point of view, we are very pleased with the consistent quality of M-real’s boards. Advantages gained from the even printing surface and consistent thickness can be seen in improved productivity on our converting lines.”
