Cans and can ends can be instantaneously treated in line by pulsed light at a nominal speed of 300 cans/min. Perhaps most intriguing was the news that, thanks to a partnership between Claranor and closure maker Aptar, the new Neo by Aptar closure can also be fully decontaminated by pulsed light. This injection-molded polypropylene closure has an integrated spoon, and the Claranor technology decontaminates the surface under the spoon.

Claranor says its sterilization units are easy to integrate on existing or new lines. Benefits of pulsed light compared to other available options for sterilization, says Claranor, include low energy consumption and no need for water, chemicals, or hazardous waste management.
