Workshop explains recycling laws

An environmental packaging workshop will be held the day after Pack Expo Las Vegas, September 13 at the Hampton Tropicana Inn, Las Vegas. The one-day workshop will tackle how packagers can comply with the patchwork of "take-back" laws now on the books in 30 countries around the world. In addition, it will cover how to comply with California's recycled content mandate on rigid plastic containers.

Instructor Victor Bell, a 20-year veteran of recycling and packaging compliance issues, will provide practical guidance through the basics of what is required in California, Europe and Asia. Moreover, he will provide tips on how to design packaging to minimize collection fees in Europe.

Jerry Claes from Graham Packaging will address how and when to use recycled plastic in rigid containers. Robert DeNola from WebPkg.com will provide insights on how to design environmentally compliant packaging on the Web to save time and money throughout the production chain.

"Global Packaging Mandates: How to Design for Environment and Save Money," is organized by Recycling Laws International publisher Raymond Communications, College Park , MD, and co-sponsored by Packaging World. Workshop registration is offered at $550; $499 for subscribers. Registration includes a manual with packaging compliance details for 22 countries, and bonus CD-ROM material.
