Aseptic drink box recyclable in Canada
What was once reviled by environmentalists in the United States and was actually banned in the state of Maine in the early ‘90s is now the recipient of an environmental award in Canada. A new 250-ml recyclable Tetra® Prisma aseptic carton, which holds Oasis Health Break juice cocktails from A. Lassonde, Montreal, Quebec, Canada, received an Envirowise Award for its recyclability from the Packaging Association of Canada in April ’01.

PET bottle catches a wave
This spring, Ocean Spray Cranberries, Inc., Lakeville-Middleboro, MA, has begun nationwide distribution of its complete line of juices and juice drinks in a new flagship 64-oz Ocean Spray polyethylene terephthalate bottle. A unique brand-recognizable grip top incorporates the company logo and name molded into the bell of the bottle.

WPO lauds 'Dream Steam'
The best-of-show Presidents Award in the WorldStar 2000 packaging competition, sponsored by the World Packaging Organisation, went to a concept known as Dream Steam. Developed by flexible film converter Wipf AG (Volketswil, Switzerland) and food R&D company Creative New Food (Eglisau, Switzerland), Dream Steam is a three-component package that makes it possible to combine fresh vegetables and a fresh proteinmeat, fish, or poultryin one cook-in container.
