Diamond of California: Scale systems for shelled nuts
Computerized scales from Hayssen deliver accurate amounts of nuts on this 16-head system that includes an upper scale with a booster hopper directly beneath. Nuts released from the scales fall through stainless-steel tubes into vf/f/s equipment.

Diamond of California: Side-by-side form/fill/seal machines for nuts
Filled and sealed bags of nuts discharge from two side-by-side vf/f/s machines onto a conveyor that runs perpendicular to them. Bags are then conveyed downstream. Meanwhile, printed film is pulled through tensioning rollers on one of the vf/f/s machines (right).

Diamond of California: Automated case erector for bagged nuts
A key improvement to downstream packaging functions at Diamond of California is this automatic case erector. Erected cases are packed manually before tape is applied to top flaps (right) to seal them shut. An ink-jet system then prints best-before date, Julian date code, and line and shift codes.

But Horizon Organic of Boulder, CO, claims it’s the first to launch an organic flavored milk in a single-serve format: the Tetra Prisma aseptic carton from Tetra Pak (Vernon Hills, IL).
