Worldwide Food Expo creates 'big blend'

By combining the Food & Dairy Expo with the Intl. Meat, Poultry and Seafood Expo, the second Worldwide Food Expo promises the year's largest display of packaging equipment and supplies exclusively for food processors.

The food industry's biggest event in 1999 is sponsored by five major groups: the American Meat Institute (Arlington, VA); the Intl. Assn. of Food Industry Suppliers (McLean, VA); the Intl. Dairy Foods Assn. (Washington, DC); the National Fisheries Institute (Arlington, VA); and the National Food Processors Assn. (Washington, DC).

Much like other shows, this year's Worldwide Food Expo will include a number of specialty pavilions grouping exhibitors of similar-type products. In the meat, poultry and seafood exposition, pavilions will be created for Facilities, Refrigeration and Distribution, U.S. Meat Exports, Sea-food and Product Development.

Within the Food & Dairy part of the exposition, Canning/Filling/ Packing Pavilion, a Food Formulating Pavilion and a Distribution & Logistics Pavilion will be featured. In addition, a number of international pavilions will group exhibits from companies based in such places as Argentina, France, New Zealand, Spain, Denmark and Italy.

Attendees will also have an opportunity to attend more than 50 educational workshops that will cover new technologies in the food industry, including some devoted to packaging. AMI and NFI will hold a convention at McCormick Place, as well. Keynote speaker will be former Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives Newt Gingrich.

Meanwhile, the National Food Processors Assn. will hold its 92nd Annual Convention, Oct. 28 to 30, at the Chicago Hilton & Towers Hotel.

Further details on the Worldwide Food Expo and the programs of its sponsors can be accessed at the show's Web site: www.worldwidefood.com. The site also permits registration. The group also operates a fax-on-demand service at 703/645-9302.
