In an exchange that may be more smoke than fire, officials of the Glass Molders, Pottery, Plastics and Allied Workers Intl. Union (GMP) have protested Anheuser-Busch's decision to purchase glass beer bottles from the Mexicali, Mexico, plant of Anchor Glass Container Corp., a unit of Consumers Packaging (Toronto, Ontario, Canada).

The beer industry may seek government permission to include a benefits statement, as well as the mandatory warning, on beer labels. According to Craig Purser, director of industry affairs for the National Beer Wholesalers Assn., brewers are waiting to see if the wine industry wins approval of its request for a benefits statement.
