Hewlett-Packard: Digital printing press for high-volume labels

Able to produce labels up to 131 linear ft/min in color, Hewlett-Packard's HP Indigo WS6800 Digital Press is a narrow-web printing solution for high-volume labels and packaging production that is said to deliver the industry’s highest crossover point in narrow-web production vs. analog for the vast majority of pressure-sensitive label jobs.

The press uses Enhanced Productivity Mode (EPM) to achieve high-volume production. Users benefit from high output with a larger 12.59- x 38.58-in image format. An inline spectrophotometer saves time on color calibrations and color profiles.

HP Indigo’s liquid ElectroInk digital color printing process provides high resolution printing and quality registration, delivering the eye-catching, distinctive packaging envisioned by designers. Converters can stringent corporate branding requirements using up to 7 ink stations and a color gamut that reaches up to 97% of Pantone colors.

The press produces a wide range of label applications, flexible packaging, sleeves, and folding cartons. It supports 0.5 pt to 18 pt materials, both standard, off-the shelf substrates with in-line priming, as well as pre-treated materials. New inks open opportunities for high-value applications and new markets.

The HP Indigo workflow ecosystem includes the built-in high-automation Workflow Suite Powered by Esko, and an array of integrated MIS, pre press and converting solutions from partners.

The press reduces production waste, increases energy efficiency, and provides carbon-neutral manufacturing. It has the Green Leaf Mark from Intertek, one of the world’s leading independent certification and testing companies.
