The design was first created for mailing tubes. Tri-Hex® Mailing Tubes offer a strength not recognized by square, circular or other triangular mailing tubes, helping to keep products secure during both manual and automated handling. Recognizing the Tri-Hex® design would make incredibly strong and durable pallet runners, Jason Erdie, Owner of Erdie Industries, Inc., further developed the hexagon design, for the pallet runners. Noticing the pallet runners were being utilized by customers as packaging, helping to strengthen and protect items during shipments, we further extended the Tri-Hex® line of products, and added perforation every 8” to the pallet runners.
Self-adhesive, the pallet runners are easy to assemble when needed, helping save floor space and unsightly outdoor wooden pallet graves. Because they are perforated, many different sizes and types of pallets can be made depending on customer needs. Weighing in at a mere 2 lbs a piece for a 48” long runner, the runners are very lightweight, helping to save on freight costs and injuries, which can help insurance costs. Another benefit of the self-adhesive runners is they can be applied directly to a sturdy shipping box, saving the cost of a top deck. A larger, heavier box can then be shipped that way and moved around a warehouse easily with a hand-jack further reducing injury risk.
The Tri-Hex® unique hexagonal design has less raw materials than other paper pallets and still holds up to 4500 lbs. Less raw materials also save in freight costs. A standard 40x48 pallet weighs around 40-50 lbs, and a pallet made with three of Tri-Hex® Pallet Runners and a top deck is under 10 lbs.
Made from 100% corrugated paper, the mailers and pallet runners can be bailed and recycled. Three runners and a top deck can fetch up to a $1.00 from recycling companies. Plus, Erdie Industries, Inc. can make the pallets from 100% post-consumer waste, helping to be more environmentally friendly.
