MWV: Paperboard barrier packaging

MeadWestvaco’s Evertain packaging uses a patented barrier technology that combines a specially-sealed inner seam with barrier coating to produce hermetically sealable, airtight paperboard packages for foods that require protection from oxygen and moisture.

The Evertain family of barrier packaging preserves freshness, and is also easy to carry and easy to reclose.  It comes in four reclosable sizes, including round and non-round varieties, with customizable levels of barrier against oxygen and moisture.  For example, the Evertain on-the-go snack cup is portable and reclosable, and is designed to fit in standard car cup holders.

In addition, Evertain offers unique efficiency and sustainability benefits. It is said to be 60% lighter than comparably sized composite and metal cans. The package’s nestability allows eight times as many empty packages to be stored in the same space, reducing warehousing space and the number of trucks needed for transport. Unlike composite cans and plastic canisters, Evertain containers enable direct printing of graphics—eliminating the need for excess labels and packaging. All Evertain fiber is sourced from responsibly managed forests and is 100% chain of custody certified.
