Schmalbach-Lubeca suffered a July 26 fire at its beverage can plant in the German district of Bad Durkheim near Mannheim. The company indicated it would be able to almost fully offset the temporary production loss by drawing upon stocks and shifting production to other locations.

Before the fire, the plant supplied both two-piece steel cans and aluminum ends.
