New USDA produce seal

USDA has initiated a voluntary pilot program under which fresh-cut produce plants can qualify to put USDA "Qualified Through Verification" seals on their packaging.

So far, five packing facilities of minimally processed produce have qualified, including Handi-Pak Foods, Kankakee, IL; Grimmway Foods, Bakersfield, CA; Babe Foods, Santa Maria, CA; and Tanimura & Antle's Salinas and Yuma, CA, Salad Time Foods® plants. USDA auditors conduct unannounced safety checks of plants as part of the fresh-cut produce program.
