New tax on packaging in Belgium

InBev has raised its price for beer to compensate for costs incurred by Belgium's new tax on packaging.

The Belgian government introduced the new packaging tax to encourage less packaging use, thereby lowering pollution and increasing conservation. The Belgian brewery raised the price of all its beers sold in bottles or cans by one percent on April 1. The price of a bottle or can of InBev's Stella Artois or Beck's - among others - will rise by an additional 2.5 percent on July 1 to cover rising raw material costs and inflation, sources say.
